Prayer Project: Sacred Chant Course through IJS December 19 - January 14, meeting times TBD
TBH will be participating in a 30-day prayer intensive presented by the Institute for Jewish Spirituality. By cultivating a personal practice of chant, we are receiving the holy texts that we have inherited by making them wholly our own. Through daily practice supported by teachings, processing and reflection we will learn and explore the power of the sacred phrase as a tool of healing and transformation. Each Sunday, you will receive an email with a video teaching, accompanied by a written lesson, which may include links to Jewish texts, secular writings, poems, music, videos, and other references to supplement your learning. Rabbi Seth will guide a TBH processing group (times TBD) for those who have registered for the course.
To register through IJS, click here (you will be required to create an account if you don't already have one). Make sure to use the code IJS_64 for the discounted course rate!
COMING UP AT TBH
Community Weighs in on Alternative Futures for Courtyard and Parking Lots
On Sunday, December 7, over 30 people attended a virtual community meeting that presented three alternative concept plans for the future of the TBH parking lots and courtyard. Questions were asked and comments provided at the meeting and over the next few days. The New Property Improvement Team (NPIT) reviewed all of those comments and put together a recommended plan to the TBH Board. If you would like a copy of both the compendium of community comments and the preliminary recommended concept plan, please contact Kayla at tbh@bethhatfiloh.org.
The next steps in the project involve research and verification of costs and regulatory requirements of the city. A Board action on the concept plan, which will include phasing of improvements and financing, is scheduled for January 26. If you have any questions about the concept plan or the process moving forward, please contact Daniel Farber at dbenfarber@gmail.com.

Reconstructionists Expanding Our Conversation About Israel/Palestine January-May 2022
Please join us for a series of learning opportunities led by Reconstructionist rabbis on Israel/Palestine. Guided by the values of justice and the dignity and equal worth of all human life, we seek to promote discussion of the histories and current conditions of Israel/Palestine that challenge the boundaries of current Reconstructionist approaches to Israel/Palestine and re-examine customary assumptions about the role of Israel in diaspora Jewish life. We oppose Israel’s domination of the Palestinian people in all its forms and hope to deepen our relationship with Jews and Palestinians seeking a future of justice and equality in Israel/Palestine. We welcome those who consider themselves Zionists, non-Zionists, and anti-Zionists, and those unsure about how they define themselves, even as we explore the meanings of these terms. Cycles of Rest, Release, and Liberation: Antiracism and Shemitah as Spiritual Practice Begins January 12, 2022through the Institute for Jewish Spirituality
The Hebrew word shemitah literally means “release.” In its biblical origin, Shemitah was a year of rest, in a seven year cycle of Jewish life, that gave the land a rest from farming, forgave all debts, and instituted agricultural and economic adjustments. Now as then, Shemitah calls us to take steps to ensure the maintenance of an equitable, just, and healthy society. This Jewish year, 5782, is a Shemitah ‘Sabbatical Year.’ We invite you to join Cycles of Rest, Release and Liberation: Antiracism and Shemitah as Spiritual Practice — a transformative, contemplative learning journey that will combine Jewish text, antiracism teaching, and opportunities to reflect.
