Celebrating @ Sinai: a virtual Shavuot celebration for the Reconstructionist movement Thursday, May 28 - Friday, May 29
Rather than hosting our own Shavuot celebration, TBH encourages you to join our larger community and attend Shavuot hosted by Reconstructing Judaism. Celebrate with revelations of song & study, meditation, movement, & more.
Participate the whole night or just what you want. Join us for all or part of our program beginning with Kabbalat Hag Song Fest and Candlelighting, Thursday, May 28 4:30 pm and continuing with a Tikkun Leyl Shavuot of teaching, learning, movement, and musical offerings through Friday morning, May 29, 7:30 am. Reconstructionist communities and individuals will be welcome to join our Zoom webinar or view on our Facebook live stream for as much or as little as they would like.
This Sunday, May 31, join Mo and other teens for an hour long Zoom hangout. We will be talking about the holiday of Shavuot, the Hebrew month of Sivan, and how the themes of both might relate to what is happening in our lives right now. Come share how you're doing, connect with other folks, and bring any thoughts, questions, or ideas you want to share.
Senior Schmooze: The Alter Kocker Challenge Tuesday, June 2, 12:00 pm
You too can be a Senior. Or at least can be one online. For this upcoming Senior Schmooze will include the first-ever TBH History Quiz!
Join the temple seniors and seniors-to-be in competing for the not-so-grand prize of bragging rights, as we test the knowledge and judgment of participants. You have to be under 100 years old o play. We don't want unfair competition.
TBH’s Shabbat Salon returns with Salon@Home! While we can not be physically together, we can still share in food and conversation at the TBH Shabbat Salon. Dinner provided by Nineveh is available for pre-order, and you can pick it up at TBH on Friday afternoon.
Erev Shabbat services will be at 6:00 p.m., after which we can eat together and hear from our featured presenters, Irina Gendelman and Jeff Birkenstein from St. Martin’s University. Speaker begins at 7:00. You do not need to purchase a meal to attend, please join for all or part. Consider being a “Salon Sponsor” for $100. Includes 2 meals, challah, and bottle of wine.
Note: - Meals will be vegetarian and come complete and pre-packaged - While the meal is still subsidized, because of some increased costs, we will need to apply a “pandemic surcharge” to the cost of the meals, each will be $18. - Meals will be available for pick up. For inquiries about delivery availability, please contact the office at tbh@bethhatfiloh.org.
See the menu and order dinner on our event page! Zoom information to follow.
Annual Meeting Sunday, June 14, 10:00 am
Our Annual Meeting will take place via Zoom. All members in good standing will receive electronic ballots by June 1. If you do not receive a ballot but believe you should have, please contact Kayla at tbh@bethhatfiloh.org. During the one-hour meeting, we’ll seek input related to congregational life during the pandemic. We’ll explore questions including: What do you miss about physically being together? What do you appreciate about congregational life via Zoom? How do you envision our re-entry, as the pandemic winds down? Are there things we are doing now that you’d like to bring with us, even when we can meet physically?
Zoom information will be emailed separately to all members in good standing. If you are unsure about your membership, please take this opportunity to check your ShulCloud account or email Kayla at tbh@bethhatfiloh.org.
CHRONICLING OUR SHARED EXPERIENCE
Call For Submissions!
This section of the weekly is dedicated to sharing member creativity and experiences during this time of separation! If you have a recipe, piece of art, poem, short story, photo, etc. that you would like to share, send it to tbh@bethhatfiloh.org. If we receive enough submissions, we hope to compile them after this crisis has passed.
You know I don’t social distance in my dreams these years were never meant for this Always imagined this time as more of a harsh reminder that fun exists A chaotic spin full of birthday parties and days spent at the beach Shopping malls and children’s playgrounds at night pandemics take things away you knew you would miss if gone It’s not subtle But there’s is a big difference in knowing the ground is hard and hitting it a pandemic takes away the things we live for the idea that maybe we could rent a van and just drive (open skies) and watching the world spin and slow down and sometimes we wonder if there’s any purpose to a world that was made to enjoy we live for the companionships we find and the/our office co workers (Who even though annoying remind you of the stability of this job) Because why else would we live What else is there to live for but each other but it’s still hard not to think about 14 as a magical age And it breaks me just a little to know that I am alone Not with my friends who feel more like my family Not at my school that feels like a second home every room filled with memories I carry as a reminder of who I am and what I love
Not out at night when the air turns colder and there’s an excited buzz some places and the way things sometimes look blurry fills you with unmistakable — joy but I go through this world utterly alone now not really but in the physical sense but still the same So I don’t social distance in dreams but sometimes I can’t help it Telling strangers in the streets of my imagination to stay six feet apart As if they could be any further
