Reconstructionist Thought Then and Now Starts Sunday, September 22, 2:40 pm
In Person
For 25 years, TBH has been affiliated with the Reconstructionist movement. The Reconstructionist movement began in the early 20th century in America as a school of thought rooted in the work of Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan. While TBH is home to Jews from diverse backgrounds, the ideas of Reconstructionism inform our approach to Jewish life and community. We will examine Kaplan’s writings and use them as a jumping off point for discussing issues affecting the contemporary Jewish community.
Meets Sundays, September 22 & 29, October 20 & 27, November 3 & 17, 2:40 - 4:00 pm Taught by Rabbi Seth Goldstein. Registration costs $18 for TBH members, $36 for non-members.

Selichot: Cornhole Tournament Saturday, September 28, 7:00 pm In Person
Why can’t repentance be fun? Is there a greater joy than the ability to learn from our mistakes and grow from them? The Jewish understanding of “sin” is that we have “missed the mark,” or not acted in ways that are expected of us. So let’s have a bit of fun with a game of cornhole, where we try not to “miss the mark.” We will follow with Havdalah, a short service and study introducing the prayer themes of the High Holidays, and preparing our sanctuary for the High Holidays. Cornhole outdoors begins at 7:00 p.m., followed by the service and study at 8:00 p.m.
Senior Schmooze: Death Cafe Tuesday, October 1, 12:00 pm In Person
Our October Schmooze presentation will be a Death Cafe facilitated by Johnni Hansen. What is a Death Cafe?
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is ‘to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes.
It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Topics might include your thoughts, feelings and experiences relating to: life after death, past lives, near death experiences, reincarnation, ghostly apparitions, loss, memorial rites/customs, methods of dealing with mortal remains, etc.
