Book Group Tuesday, January 21, 6:30 pm In Person
Unearthing: A Story of Tangled Love and Family Secrets by Kyo Maclear A captivating and propulsive story of inheritance that goes beyond heredity; a thoughtful reflection on race, lineage, and our cultural fixation on recreational genetics. Maclear weaves in passages about plants — the palms in a public greenhouse she visited weekly after her father's death, the "shaggy fern and stiff-postured horsetail" in her mother's garden, the thyme she "uprooted" from her own yard to plant on her father's grave as she untangles her family’s story.
Join us for any book(s) that you're interested in talking about. This year we will meet in person every other month on the 3rd Tuesday at 6:30pm. The list below includes how many copies are available in the Timberland Regional Library (TRL). Contact Linda Rubin at linda.rubin23@gmail.com with questions. Please don't be shy, come join us.
What: I, Emmett, am focusing on providing care to animals in local shelters, primarily the Joint Animal Shelter in Lacey, via volunteering my time, and creating cat toys and sewing blankets for adoption boxes. I am requesting support, via donation, from the congregation for animals in need in our community. Why: I love animals. They don't have a voice and I want to bridge the language barrier by voicing their needs to you. It matters to me to provide a mitzvah and that connects to my Torah portion. Where: There will be a donation box by the bulletin board at the temple entrance to receive your generous donations. Thank you for your help!!
Donations needed include: FOOD - Puppy wet/dry food (Kirkland Brand or Purina Pro Plan - Cat/ Kitten dry food (Kirkland Brand Cat and Kitten Maintenance, Royal Canin Mother and Baby cat, and Iams Kitten) - Canned Kitten food - Milk Replacement for kittens and pups (KMR) - Meat baby food (no ham) SUPPLIES - Clay Litter, non- clumping (small bags preferred) - yesterday's News cat litter - TOYS and treats for cats and dogs. Havurah Shir Hadahs: The Psalms of Bob Dylan with Reb David Wednesday, January 22, 7 pm Online
Rabbi David Zaslow created a slideshow to take us into the heart and soul of Bob Dylan’s lyric brilliance. Several clips of him speaking are included as well. You’ll get a good look at the inside of the manner in which he used juxtapositions of images to create evocative metaphors. Join us and share the link with friends who might be interested in this experiential look at some of Dylan’s work.
