“Jews, Palestinians, and Israelis: Dilemmas in History” with Professor Nancy Koppelman.
Includes noshing on Nancy’s Blintzapalooza prize-winning bagels! Much of the news cycle about Israel and Palestine focuses on events put into motion by governments and leaders. How can we learn about what everyday life for everyday people?
“Jews, Palestinians, and Israelis: Dilemmas in History” is a 3-hour workshop that provides a window into the lives of diverse inhabitants of the land, both before and after Israel became a state. Attendees will be led through an exercise that enables them to learn some history, step into the shoes of others, and consider how the ethical dilemmas that individual people face in life intersect with history.
The aims of this workshops are:
to highlight the richness of history and inspire curiosity
to recognize how individual decisions intersect with history
to grasp the contexts within which people make decisions
to appreciate how different conceptual “tools” can foster or limit understanding
to appreciate the challenges that Jews, Palestinians, and Israelis have faced in their efforts to work together for their mutual benefit
This lunch is a fundraiser for TBH. Price: $50 suggested donation. Please email tbh@bethhatfiloh.org to attend at a different rate--all are welcome.

Immigrant & Refugee Task Force: Volunteers needed to help provide sack lunches for Immigrant Detainees
We are glad to report that more migrants are being released from the Detention Center in Tacoma, and TBH is once again contributing to the AIDNW sack lunch program.
TBH had been assisting AIDNW, as they greeted newly released detainees, by providing sack lunches once a month. It has been on hold because very few people were being let go.
We will now provide 20 bags of shelf stable food on the fourth Monday of each month, beginning August 26.
If you are interested in shopping, packing bags, and/or delivering to the Tacoma Northwest ICE Processing Center, or if you would like more information, please contact Nancy Snyder at nancy_snyder@comcast.net

Bazaar Committee: Calling All Makers! Vendor Application Open
We are so excited to be holding Temple Beth Hatfiloh’s 2nd annual Hanukkah Makers and Bakers Hanukkah Bazaar. The Bazaar is December 8, 2024. We are sending an early announcement to give you an opportunity to get in an early application since applications are accepted as they arrive after being reviewed.
The Bazaar gives us a chance to share our creations with TBH and the broader community and also supports TBH.
The Olympia Sisterhood has been essentially dormant for the past few years, due in part to COVID and also to senior moments. Back in the day we organized fund raisers for the Temple, provided gifts for bar and bat mitzvah celebrants, and gathered together for social events and other mitzvas. If anyone is interested in rejuvenating and redefining this institution please contact me.
