Seattle Jewish Film Festival, Olympia Film Society, and TBH present: "Best of Fest" Thursday, September 28, 4:00 pm / 7:00 pm
We have selected two of the “Best of Fest” films from our 28th annual festival that best illustrate the power of cinema and “cinemanna,” and in particular the artistry of filmmaking about Holocaust subjects, one a French documentary, one a French feature film and our 2023 Audience Award Winner for Best Film. THE ART OF SILENCE (4 pm) is a revelatory documentary about the famous mime artist, Marcel Marceau, “unmasking” his enigmatic personal and family history in an artistically moving way. FAREWELL, MR. HAFFMANN (7 pm) is a transfixing drama that has garnered accolades on the festival circuit, including the Aspen Film Festival jury prize, the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival grand prize, and our own SJFF 2023 Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature.
Advancing in Hebrew Cancelled for September Online
This seminar-type gathering will work on advancing Hebrew knowledge, including grammar and roots. Our next gathering will be October 26th at 7:00 pm.
High Holiday Food Drive Closes Sunday, October 1, 1:00 pm
Our High Holiday Food Drive is almost over! All non-perishable food is welcome. Foods in high demand include: high protein foods such as Peanut Butter, Pasta, Grains, rice and beans, Cereal, Canned fruits in natural juices, Low salt canned vegetables, Mac and cheese, and Canned proteins (chili, fish, chicken, stew). Donations can be left in the old foyer, and checks made out to the Thurston County Food Bank can be left in the TBH mailbox.
Sukkot Tisch Friday, September 29, 6:00 pm In Person
Note the earlier than usual time for Erev Shabbat. Join us as we celebrate Sukkot and Shabbat with the annual Sukkot Tisch! We will come together in the TBH sukkah for singing, storytelling, sukkah decoration, study, and sharing food and drink around a big table (“tisch” is table in Yiddish). Please bring some dairy/vegetarian food or drink to share; TBH will provide soups (and Rabbi Seth's etrog beverage). The sukkah will open at 5:30 pm for schmoozing and decorating, service will start promptly at 6:00 pm, and we will eat at 6:30 pm.

Mitzvah Day Sunday, October 1
On the Sunday following each Yom Kippur, TBH continues our High Holiday spirit by joining in a day of community service work.
10:00 AM Volunteering at GRuB Get in touch with your inner farmer and help GRuB provide food for our community and opportunities for youth. GRuB (Garden-Raised Bounty) is a nonprofit organization working at the intersection of food, education, and health systems to grow healthy food, people, and communities. GRuB staff and TBH member GaBriel Marks will lead our group. This year, we will gather directly at GRuB instead of at TBH (2016 Elliott Ave NW)
1:00 PM Food Drive Transport We will gather first at TBH to pack and transport, and then sort food on site for the Food Bank. Food and donations benefit the Thurston County Food Bank. S

As we move into our darker months, our weekly standard Erev Shabbat time is 6:30 pm starting in the beginning of October. Please watch the weekly for special Shabbat celebrations and schedules for dinners and other programs. We will return to our later time (7:00 pm) next May.

During Arts Walk we will meet at Sylvester Park at candle lighting time, 6:23 pm, for lighting candles and a short service. There will not be a regular service at TBH.

We return in 5784 to in-person catered Shabbat Salons! The format this year has changed a bit, with our no service in the sanctuary. Rather, we will gather in the social hall for communal Shabbat prayer and family-style dinner catered by Nineveh at 6:30. Our featured presenter will begin at approximately 7:45 pm.
Hanukkah Bazaar: Vendors Needed! Vendor Applications Due October 15
We have extended the deadline for vendor applications! TBH is putting on a Hanukkah Bazaar this year on Sunday, November 12th in the afternoon! The Bazaar will feature the TBH Hanukkah Shop, a bake sale, "Judai-kitsch" swap, and craft sale. If you would like to be a vendor at the Craft Fair, please complete this application and return to the TBH Office either via email or drop off the form.

Introduction to Judaism Starts October Online
This class is a survey of Jewish texts, practices, ideas, and history, taught by 30 rabbis from across Washington State from a variety of denominations, backgrounds, and work experiences—including Rabbi Seth.
This class is suitable for all adult learners, including those exploring Judaism personally (including possible conversion), those looking to add depth to their Jewish identity, those partnered with Jews or part of Jewish families, or those just interested in learning more about Judaism.
