People Love Dead Jews: Reports from a Haunted Present by Dara Horn. In these essays, Horn reflects on subjects as far-flung as the international veneration of Anne Frank, the mythology that Jewish family names were changed at Ellis Island, and the marketing of the Jewish history of Harbin, China. She challenges us to consider why there is so much fascination with Jewish deaths, and so little respect for Jewish lives unfolding in the present. Here's a quick update on progress on the courtyard/parking lot project.
The good news is that we have gotten approval of our plans from the city! City staff required no significant changes that limited our parking layout or our courtyard designs in any way. When we are ready to go, we need to identify our construction team to the city and pay their permit fees.
We are now working to come to terms with a contractor, finalizing costs, and identifying the level of fundraising and phasing we will need to pursue to get the project underway. The best estimate for timing now is a construction window for phase one starting in the winter of 2023 and completed by the end of Spring.
If you have any questions, as always, please feel free to contact either Daniel Farber or Gary Schneider.

The Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice: Newsletter and Appeal
The Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice NW believes another world is possible. In our vision, all immigrants deserve to be treated with respect and care under laws that are just and humane. In our vision, we live in safety, peace and power together. And we welcome the stranger because we have been strangers ourselves.
Since 2017, the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice NW has been a powerful voice for immigrant justice in the Jewish communities statewide, inspiring activism and supporting and moving forward the work of immigrant justice organizations. We build relationships and community in taking our lead from those directly impacted by immigration policy.
As we approach Hanukkah, a time of light, too many of our teens are struggling to maintain their mental wellness in the face of renewed academic and social pressures as the pandemic recedes. Some are finding a way to channel their concerns into positive change for themselves and their communities.
Join Moving Traditions and Dr. Betsy Stone as we examine ways we can support the teens in our lives, shine a light on these pervasive issues, and help our youth find their way.
