Shavuot: Torah and Cheesecake

Saturday, June 8, 2019 5 Sivan 5779

7:30 PM - 11:59 PM

Having left Egypt and slavery behind at Passover, we are now, as a people, en route to Sinai, where we will receive Torah (anew, as we do every year) on the Festival of SHAVUOT. This year we will have multiple opportunities to learn and celebrate, in the evening and in the morning.

7:30 p.m.       Erev Shavuot Service

8:00 p.m.       "American Jewish Identity and Israel" led by Daniel Farber.

From time to time, TBH congregants travel to Israel. In the last few months it feels like that flow turned into a minyan. As a Shavuot educational opportunity, Daniel Farber will lead a discussion of the explorations of American Jewish Identity and connections to Israel. He recently blogged about his 3-month visit to Israel, and his blog entries "On Jewish Identity: Family, Tribe, Religion and/or Nation" and “Migrations” provides a jumping off point for discussion. The conversation will include the Israel experiences of TBH members David Hanig, Susan Rosen, and Sonja Dordal—who were also in Israel recently. The questions and insights of all attendees are fair game in this wide-ranging session. Daniel's entire blog can be read at danielinisrael.home.blog.

9:30 p.m.        Cheesecake and Noshing
