THIS WEEK AT TBH
January Salon Registration is Open: Anna Schlecht! Friday, January 10, 6:30 pm In Person
Registration for the dinner closes this evening (Wednesday January 8) at 5 pm. For our January Salon, we welcome Anna Schlecht, presenting "Olympia, City of Murals." Public art reflects how we see ourselves as a community--the images are visual testaments to who we value, and by omission who we don't see as part of our community.
Join Anna Schlecht, Chair of Rainbow Community Arts and coordinator of the ODA's LoveOly painters, for a presentation of the growing artistic landscape in downtown Olympia, with an emphasis on those murals created by artists of color which depict images that diversify our sense of community.
Our salon includes a dinner at 6:30 pm catered by Nineveh! We will gather in the social hall to say Shabbat prayers as a community and enjoy dinner together. Our featured presenter will follow at approximately 7:30 pm. Register for the dinner>>
Unity Commons Meal Preparation & Sponsorship Sunday, January 12
TBH prepares a monthly meal for 60 at the Unity Commons Shelter on Martin Way. Unity Commons is a supported housing apartment operated by Interfaith Works. For more information: https://www.iwshelter.org
Funding for our meals is currently only partially covered under the TBH budget. It would be wonderful if this effort was funded by community donations. We hope that community members might wish to donate a meal in honor of a loved one, or simcha. The cost to put on a meal is approximately $250. This includes the food, as well as the disposable pans for transporting food to the shelter.
To sign up to be a cooking volunteer, email tbh@bethhatfiloh.org.
Trampled Manuscripts: The Lost Klezmer Music of the An-ski Expeditions Tuesday, January 14, 7:00 pm In Person
A chance encounter in Tokyo in 2017 led to the sharing of a unique corpus of klezmer music manuscripts from the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine that haven’t seen the light of day in about a century.
Over the last five years, volunteers around the world have worked together to digitally notate and translate these manuscripts. This concert is an adventure in creative engagement with this previously unknown treasure trove of Ashkenazic musical heritage.
The program is co-created by Christina Crowder in collaboration with Shpilkis trombonist Jimmy Austin, Violinist Mae Kessler, and additional featured guests from the Seattle klezmer world. Together we’re exploring S. An-ski’s radical vision that the folklore of the Jewish people is an oral Torah as important as the Talmud of the sages, which inspired his ethnographic expeditions between 1912-1914 and created the backdrop for An-ski’s most famous work, The Dybbuk. An-ski hoped that the Jewish people would become Zamlers (collectors) who would continue to engage with Ashkenazic folklore as a living, breathing legacy. We invite you to join our “community expedition” into this extraordinary discovery!
We currently don't have any greeters signed up for the concert! Contact Kayla if you are able to help greet concert attendees.

What: I, Emmett, am focusing on providing care to animals in local shelters, primarily the Joint Animal Shelter in Lacey, via volunteering my time, and creating cat toys and sewing blankets for adoption boxes. I am requesting support, via donation, from the congregation for animals in need in our community. Why: I love animals. They don't have a voice and I want to bridge the language barrier by voicing their needs to you. It matters to me to provide a mitzvah and that connects to my Torah portion. Where: There will be a donation box by the bulletin board at the temple entrance to receive your generous donations. Thank you for your help!!
Donations needed include: FOOD - Puppy wet/dry food (Kirkland Brand or Purina Pro Plan - Cat/ Kitten dry food (Kirkland Brand Cat and Kitten Maintenance, Royal Canin Mother and Baby cat, and Iams Kitten) - Canned Kitten food - Milk Replacement for kittens and pups (KMR) - Meat baby food (no ham) SUPPLIES - Clay Litter, non- clumping (small bags preferred) - yesterday's News cat litter - TOYS and treats for cats and dogs.
