Mussar, 10:00 am Online We will take a deep dive into two parashot, Bo—Exodus 10:1 – 13:16 and parashat B’shalach – Exodus 13:17 thru 17:15. The middot or soul traits for these two torah portions are Kavod/Honor: Making an Effort and Bitachon/Trusting the Path. We will study and practice together. Please plan on joining us for an intriguing Mussar discussion of these Torah portions and these important soul traits.
Lox Making with Gaute & Erin Thursday, January 18, 5:30 pm In Person
Spend an evening at TBH learning how to make Gaute’s delectable salmon gravlax (aka lox). All ingredients needed, including Salmon will be provided.
Each participant will go home with:
A copy of the recipe
Tips and tricks for buying the best salmon and gravlax-making techniques
A 3-inch section with instructions and friendly text reminders to flip their salmon
Lox ready to eat in 3 days!.
Participants will need to bring their own shallow, non-porous containers with a lid for transport. Think 1 quart pyrex. Cost is $36 per person. 100% of proceeds benefit TBH. A big thank you to Erin and Gaute Syversen for offering this course and donating materials.
Two Different Worlds: A Shabbat Dinner for Interfaith Couples post-10/7 Friday, January 19, 5:30 In Person
An invitation from TBH member Victoria Mapson: Calling all Jewish+NonJewish partners! It has been difficult to be a Jew after October 7th, and it has also been difficult to be the non-Jewish partner who loves us. Sometimes it feels like we are living in two separate realities, and it can feel impossible to find connection. Join a young interfaith couple in Olympia for shabbat dinner at their home to combat the isolation Jews are experiencing, and to support each other in the various ways we know how. This event may recur based on interest, so sign up even if seats are full. We don't need to agree on everything, but we do need to be together.

Beginning Hebrew for Adults Starts January 21, 2:45 pm In Person
Registration has closed. Time to learn Hebrew! At the end of this class students will be able to read and decode Hebrew with some introduction to vocabulary, grammar and the meaning behind our sacred language. Class meets for 10 Sundays, 2:45-4:00 beginning in January: Jan 21, Feb 4, 11, 25, Mar 10, Apr 7, 14, 28, May 19, June 2. (Note: the timing and schedule of the class coincides with the second session of the Darchei Noam youth program)

TBH Cohort of - Jewish Renewal Support Group: with Rabbinic Pastor Chaya Lerner Starts Wednesday, January 24, 4:30 pm Online
A group of TBH Members will be participating in this online Jewish renewal support group, and would like to hold smaller, facilitated discussions in a safe, supportive environment at TBH.
The recent horrific war in the Middle East has triggered many of us. Added to the mix is an increase in antisemitism in our world? How do we negotiate our own progressive politics with the ongoing war, the occupation, the hostage situation and the massive casualties and destruction? How can we work through the current triggering, fear and anxiety? In a 6 week workshop series, Reb Chaya Lerner will teach and facilitate a listening circle of “Kavod” - respect around these issues using the practice of Internal Family Systems and Jewish belief. Chaya is an expert facilitator, counselor and healer who has led groups for many congregations and is beloved in the world of Jewish Renewal.

Shabbat Shirah "Kumsitz" Saturday, January 27, 4:00 pm In Person
The TBH choir, Kol Neshama, invites you to attend the 7th Shabbat Shirah “Kumsitz.” “Kum-what?” you may ask. A kumsitz (from the Yiddish “come sit”) describes gathering to sing and socialize, either on the floor, in chairs, or around a campfire. (We’ll provide the chair option!)

Join us at Camp Solomon Schechter for an afternoon with Josh Lake and others as we celebrate the birthday of the trees. This event is free but registration is required for gate code and supply preparations. Registration closes January 19th.
WCR: Survey Class on Israel & Zionism Starts Sunday, February 4, 5:00 pm Online
The Washington Coalition of Rabbis (of which Rabbi Seth is on the Board!) is offering a 6-session, online course in Israel and Zionism. This is an opportunity to learn from a diverse set of Washington State rabbis about about the history and ideology of Zionism and Israel, including how they intersect with Jewish thought, history, and identity. Class meets on Sundays at 5:00 p.m., beginning February 4. Sliding scale tuition, no one is turned away.

Dayenu's Spiritual Grief and Resiliency Workshop Sunday, January 21, 3:00 pm In Person at UW Hillel
Join Dayenu: A Jewish Call to Climate Action for a Seattle climate grief and resilience workshop on Sunday, January 2st, 2024 hosted by Hillel at the University of Washington and co-sponsored by Kavana and Earth Ministry/Washington Interfaith Power & Light.
We will take a journey together through four stages, rooted in Jewish wisdom. We start in (1) gratitude then we (2) honor our pain for the world by making space to process our climate emotions. We then move into (3) opening to new possibilities by imagining a just and livable future on planet earth and finally arriving at theories of change and (4) taking action.
Families of the Hostages - Panel Discussion Sunday, January 21, 4:00 pm In Person at Temple De Hirsch Sinai
A delegation of the families of the hostages representing the Hostages and Missing Families Forum will be flying to Seattle from Israel shortly, in order to raise awareness and support for the immediate release of the 136 Israeli hostages who have now been held captive by Hamas for almost 100 days.
An event hosting the delegation of the families of the hostages will be held at Temple De Hirsch Sinai for the general public, in cooperation with many local Jewish organizations. This in-person event will begin with short speeches by several community leaders, and then a panel discussion with the families of the hostages. The messages shared by the families of the hostages are very important, and we ask for your help in amplifying their voices. This is a FREE, apolitical, non-denominational, community-wide event supporting a unified message — Bring Them Home Now! Please note that the event has been coordinated with local law enforcement and private security.
