Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice NW Discussion Wednesday, May 25, 7:30 pm Online
The TBH Immigration and Refugee Task Force invites you to join a presentation and discussion with members of the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice NW on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30. Since 2018, JCIJ has been learning and teaching others in the Jewish communities of the NW about immigrant justice. JCIJ partners with immigrant-led organizations to support and advocate for immigrants. Programs include raising funds for the Fair Fight Bond Fund, hosting refugees in homes, providing community accompaniment to appointments and court, and advocating for laws and policies that provide humanity and dignity to immigrants. They have a monthly newsletter to keep you in touch with issues and simple actions you can take, ideas for programming, and a virtual book club. Come learn ways TBH and JCIJ can collaborate and inspire each other.

Warblers and Finches and Hawks, Oh My! Sunday, May 29, 9:00 am In Person Hosted by the TBH Green Team. Spring is here. Southern migrants have returned. Together with the residents, songs fill the air. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge is an ideal place to see a variety of birds. Salt and freshwater wetlands, forest, and fields offer different habitats in close proximity, resulting in an abundance of wildlife.
We’ll meet at the far parking lot at 9:00 am and hike leisurely for 2½ - 3 hours. We’ll identify birds by sight and song – mostly by song. Bring binoculars if you have them. Afterwards, we’ll have a brown bag lunch at the Visitor Center table, by a large pond. You are welcome to come for one or both.
Masking is requested while within 6 feet of each other. The entrance fee is $3.00 per four adults. Children under 16 years are admitted free. The following pass holders will admit you and three other adults for free: America the Beautiful Annual Pass, Lifetime Senior Pass (formerly Golden Age), Annual Senior Pass, Lifetime Access Pass (for those with disabilities), Annual Military Pass, and Gold Star Families with Vouchers.
The walk will be led by Cindy Levy, as part of TBH’s Green Team outreach. She’ll have bird books and a birdsong app. She is a former wildlife biologist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Lacey, and worked for ecosystem protection. She deeply understands the importance of connecting with nature for our physical, mental and soulful health.

Sharing Our Stories Monday, June 6, 7:00 pm Thursday, June 9, 7:00 pm Online
We all have stories of our own, or of our communities, our families, or our ancestors. After several years of limited contact, we don’t know as much of each other’s stories as we might. Let’s connect by coming together to listen to each other and to enjoy the treasures that are found in the stories that make up our lives.
We will get together in small groups, with a facilitator, to take turns telling our stories, with a choice of the following prompts, which can be broadly interpreted:
What is a story that you’ve inherited, or one that gets retold?
It might be from someone who came before you, or from your community. It could be a story that is told about shared events.
It could be anything that gets passed down- for example: a family immigration journey; a story of working for social justice; the story behind a special recipe; a surprising or unusual event; something that happened to you or those you know, and which has been shared over time.
What is the story of your journey with Judaism?
What brought you to your current relationship with Judaism, and what were the stops along the way? Whether you identify as Jewish or not, how has Judaism touched your life?
We’ll start with some zoom-based gatherings, and add some in-person opportunities, as allowed by the TBH Covid policy. Everybody is warmly invited to join—however you identify, and whatever age you are.
If you were at the May TBH Salon, you heard Nancy Snyder speak about the ways that we connect with and through stories. It isn’t necessary to have attended the salon in order to participate, but if you do want to watch the recording, you can contact Rabbi Seth.
Registration is required so that we know how many people to expect. Sign up for either June 6 or June 9 at 7:00.

Jewish Coalition For Immigrant Justice Northwest in Seattle JOY & JUSTICE / ALEGRÍA Y JUSTICIA Sunday, June 5, 11:30 am - 1 pm at Powell Barnett Park
The holiday of Shavuot marks the Jews receiving two joyful and sweet gifts: the Torah and the season’s first fruits. This year, we honor Shavuot with a creative, all-ages community celebration in support of our migrant siblings. Join us and bring your friends and family!
Never Again invites you to gather with us to amplify and help to grow our migrant siblings’ incredible organizing! By doing so, we’ll embody the Torah’s framework for living morally in the world: “You shall not oppress a stranger, for you know the heart of the stranger, having yourselves been strangers in the Land Egypt.” When we say Never Again we mean ¡nunca más para nadie!
Never Again is proud to produce this event in support of La Resistencia and in partnership with the Coalition of Anti-Racist Whites (CARW) and the Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice Northwest. Read more here>>
