SHABBAT SHALOM!
Erev Shabbat Friday, March 18
Visiting Erev Shabbat, 7:30 pm During this time, we are taking the opportunity to visit virtually with neighboring Pacific Northwest congregations for their Erev Shabbat services. Our upcoming Shabbat host is Temple Beth Israel in Eugene, Oregon. Please note TBI uses YouTube for their services only with live chat.
Mussar, 10:00 am Thank you to our volunteers for leading our Saturday morning study sessions! Michele & Richard Jackman will co-lead discussion and Laura Hurtado-Webb will be our Zoom host.
We will study Leviticus 6:1 – 8:36, Tzav. The midda/soul trait for this parashat is Seder/Order. We will explore letting our thoughts be free to deal with that which lies ahead. Please plan on joining Michele & Richard Jackman on Zoom for an intriguing Mussar discussion of this Torah portion.
We'll meet at the Pioneer Park shelter to play, do crafts and read the Megillah! Costumes are encouraged! Feel free to bring a picnic dinner for your family and boxes of macaroni and cheese to use as groggers and then donate to the Food Bank (read more about the food drive below). Gifts of hamentaschen will be available for participants to take home.
CHESED + TZEDAKAH = MITZVAH GALORE Purim Food Donation Drive Wednesday, March 16, 5:00-6:30 at the Purim Party
Sponsored by the TBH Homelessness Task Force On Purim it is traditional to give gifts of food, mishloach manot, and gifts to the poor, mahatzit hashekel. Every year we collect boxes of noodles and rice to use as groggers while listening to the Megillah. These will be delivered to the Thurston County Food Bank.
This year we are also collecting single serving, individually wrapped, nonperishable food and drink items. These will be delivered to the Olympia Downtown Association/Alliance (ODA). The ODA employs Guides who engage with folks who are unhoused or unsheltered and living on the street in downtown Olympia. They help connect them to services and hand out snacks, water, socks, hand warmers, etc. if needed.
Remember the focus of the Purim drive is food. There are two options:
Individually wrapped, single serving, nonperishable food and drinks. Sometimes these are called lunchbox size. Please focus on nutritious snacks like protein bars, nuts, bottled water, jerky, dried fruit, protein shakes.
Boxes of rice and noodles. Something that will make noise when Haman’s name is read

Reflect in community on the experience of cultivating the essences of the sephirot in our lives.

And...calling all bakers! We will also be bringing back our delicious Dessert Dash! We missed out on this treat in 2020, but we are once again inviting TBH bakers to show off their special recipes for decadent cakes and confectionary creations.

Appeals that have been launched so far include:
Joint Distribution Committee’s predominant focus is with the Jewish community in Ukraine. The initial response includes identifying and securing safe facilities for fleeing displaced Jews, providing transportation to safe locations, providing emergency medical supplies and food, providing financial assistance for the elderly and families, staffing emergency hotlines for members of the Jewish community. ORT America launched a campaign to support ORT Ukraine students, teachers and families. Donate here.
IsraAID, a coalition of Israeli organizations working in disaster relief and international development, is sending in an assessment team to Moldova, to help Ukrainians coming over the border. Donate here.
Please note that the first 3 of the organizations above are focusing their efforts on emergency aid to Jewish communities in Ukraine. IsraAID’s relief effort is serving refugees of all faiths and backgrounds, and is not specifically focused on Jewish refugees crossing the Moldovan border.
