The Cracks in the Wall Let the Light In: The Battle for Equal Rights at the Western Wall

Come hear Cheryl Temkin speak about Women of the Wall, from its roots in 1988 to the present. She will discuss the evolution of this Israeli feminist organization as it battles to achieve gender equality and religious freedom at Judaism's holiest site.

On January 31, 2016, a breakthrough Kotel Agreement was signed to allow limited egalitarian access to prayer by women at the Western Wall (Kotel). The agreement was later suspended and then frozen. At WOW's 30th anniversary service at the Kotel in March 2019, violent ultra-Orthodox protesters pushed supporters to the ground. Come and learn about WOW's campaign for prayer by women at the Kotel (with Torah scrolls and donning tallit and tefillin) and their efforts to promote religious gender equality.
