TBH boasts a Beit Sefer (“school”
in Hebrew) of over 80 students ranging from pre-school through 8th
grade. Led by director Catherine Carmel, and staffed by a dedicated corps
of teachers and aides, the TBH Beit Sefer teaches students about the
Jewish year-cycle and life-cycle, ritual observance and celebrations,
our sacred texts and stories, Jewish American history, the Holocaust,
Israel, comparative Judaism, tzedakah, Jewish values and Jewish ideas
about God and theology. The Beit Sefer program extends beyond the
classroom walls and includes music, food, art and experiential
learning. Holiday celebrations and social activities such as the
Hanukkah Party, the Tu Bishvat tree planting and the Purim Carnival are
looked-forward-to events. Family Shabbat Celebrations, holiday Youth
Services and community service projects such as Mitzvah Day round out
the Beit Sefer program.
